In a groundbreaking achievement, the Malampaya onshore gas plant has secured a remarkable 22-year “goal zero” safety record, marking over two decades of operations without harm to people, the community, or the environment. This milestone not only reflects Prime Energy’s unwavering commitment to safety but also sets a new standard for excellence in the energy sector.
Donnabel Cruz, Managing Director, and General Manager of Prime Energy, expressed pride in the achievement, emphasizing the company’s dedication to core values such as safety, honesty, integrity, respect, value creation, and tenacity. This accomplishment underscores their responsibilities as an energy provider, reassuring stakeholders of their commitment to excellence in all aspects of their operations.
Prime Energy’s commitment to safety is exemplified in the efficient execution of the scheduled maintenance shutdown of Malampaya, both offshore and onshore, in February. The operation was completed on time with zero recorded incidents, showcasing the company’s diligence in planning and execution.
The success in maintaining the “goal zero” performance is attributed to Prime Energy’s safety leadership, open communication, and a robust Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) culture. The collaboration with contractor partners plays a pivotal role, ensuring that safety incidents are thoroughly reviewed, learnings are shared, and safe practices are recognized.
Regular HSSE-focused huddles conducted by safety leaders across the sites provide a platform for sharing updates on incidents, issues, concerns, and learnings, fostering a safety-first mindset within the workforce. The implementation of safety observation cards for all plant visitors encourages proactive risk mitigation and hazard avoidance, promoting agility and self-reliance.
Prime Energy reinforces its commitment to high HSSE standards through an annual safety day, welcoming employees, partners, contractors, and vendors. This event serves as a platform to further instill a culture of safety excellence, ensuring that everyone associated with the company is aligned with its safety objectives.
Service Contract 38, covering the Malampaya gas field, was renewed for another 15 years until February 22, 2039, by President Marcos in May. This renewal is a significant step toward unlocking the potential of the existing Malampaya gas field and nearby areas. The consortium, under this extension, is mandated to explore and drill at least two new deep-water wells in the first phase of its work program from 2024 to 2029.
The Malampaya onshore gas plant’s 22-year “goal zero” safety record is a testament to Prime Energy’s unwavering commitment to safety, excellence, and responsibility in the energy sector. This achievement not only solidifies their standing as a leader in the industry but also highlights the importance of a robust safety culture in fostering sustainable and secure energy operations. As Prime Energy continues its journey, this milestone sets the bar for others in the sector to prioritize safety and environmental stewardship in their endeavors.
