The City Government of Manila has initiated the construction of two public housing projects in Vitas, Tondo. The housing project dubbed as ‘Tondominium 1’ and ‘Tondominium 2’ is worth nearly P1 billion and is expected to be finished in two years.
According to the Manila Urban Settlements Office, Tondominium 1 and 2 would be able to accommodate about 336 families. The “Build, Build, Build Manila” project has approximately 662 square meters per floor. Each unit measures 42 square meters, with two bedrooms and a toilet. Each unit will have two bedrooms and an area of 44 square meters.
“Today is the start of the new era, the new beginning that in every open space that we can make available, it will be built with housing in the City of Manila,” Domagoso said in his speech during the groundbreaking ceremony.
The mayor ordered the city social welfare department to identify the families that will benefit from the housing project. Aside from housing projects, the city government is ready for the groundbreaking this month ‘Binondominium,’ Bagong Ospital ng Maynila and the Bagong Manila Zoo.
Moreno said the local government was able to acquire a 3,000-square-meter lot in Tondo and another 2,000-square-meter property in Binondo where the proposed 15-story residential buildings would be constructed.
The National Housing Authority has allowed the city government to build 15-story residential buildings for an in-city vertical housing program. “We borrowed P5 billion from the Development Bank of the Philippines for the project. We hope to get another P10 billion from LandBank,” Moreno said. He added the money would also be used for social amelioration programs as well as the establishment of health centers and parks.
Domagoso said all of these projects are part of his vision to uplift the standard of living in the city of Manila.
“It’s not an easy task. It will never be an easy task addressing housing in the highly populated city of Manila, but today is the start of the new era, the new beginning that in every open space that we can make available, it will be built with housing in the City of Manila,” Domagoso said.
