Oktoberfest is a traditional folk festival that hails from Bavaria, Germany, located at the southeast corner of the country, near the borders of Austria. The festival runs for 16 – 18 days of overflowing beer, merriment, and Schlager music running from mid or late September to the first Sunday in October.
When you think of Germany, the Dirndl and Lederhosen clad people drinking beer and eating sausages are probably at the forefront of your ideas. While most states of Germany has modernized and focused on industrialization, The free state of Bavaria has preserved the culture and history of “das alte Deutschland!”
Of the different traditions, Oktoberfest is one of its most popular festivals – and with good reason! Not only for the length of the festival but because it showcases German culture, music, cuisines, and of course German beer!
