The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) and Pelikulove, producer of the upcoming film Lakambini: Gregoria de Jesús, formalized their collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing held last September at the NHCP Central Office in Ermita, Manila.
The partnership was established in celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Gregoria “Ka Oriang” de Jesús, the Lakambini of the Katipunan, which was commemorated on May 9, 2025. This milestone is one of three significant anniversaries recognized by the NHCP this year, alongside fellow revolutionaries Emilio Jacinto and Gregorio del Pilar — all of whom were 21 years old during the 1897 revolution.

Lakambini: Gregoria de Jesús is based on the Palanca Award-winning script written by Rody Vera and brought to life onscreen by acclaimed filmmaker Jeffrey Jeturian and emerging creative director Arjanmar Rebeta. The film stars Lovi Poe, Gina Pareño, and Elora Españo as Ka Oriang, with Rocco Nacino portraying Andres Bonifacio. It also features the special participation of Paulo Avelino and the late Spanky Manikan as Julio Nakpil.

Described as a creative meta-documentary, Lakambini combines herstory, interviews, and anecdotes from descendants and historians with the voices of artists and the unfinished biographical film shot in 2015. The result is an innovative retelling that bridges history and modern storytelling, offering a renewed perspective on the life and legacy of Gregoria de Jesús for contemporary audiences.

The signing of the MOU signified the beginning of a shared commitment between NHCP and Pelikulove to honor Ka Oriang’s enduring contributions and to celebrate the vital role of women in the nation’s history.
Lakambini: Gregoria de Jesús is set to premiere in theaters nationwide on November 5, 2025.
The NHCP continues to uphold its mandate of promoting Philippine history and preserving the country’s cultural heritage through research, conservation, publications, and museum initiatives.
