Last February 14, we choose to spend our Valentine’s Day to a not-so-usual Valentine’s date, we opt to go and watch a suspense slash horror (we really thought its a horror play with ghost) live play in Quezon City.
So we arrive at Artienda Art Gallery in Project 4, QC at almost 7pm in the evening. It is not like your typical live play venue in mind, its more of, the real setting for a real life story.
The program started at 8pm. We were all curious on how the play will take place cause it seems the stage is too small, dark, and crowded. Even me, I feel like I will lose my breath. The eerie feeling. The curiosity and I can’t see anything. I held into my officemates arm, asking her if we should continue.
As we are seated at the side of the stairs in the middle of the room, I remember one comment saying that its the best sit, but I felt that I am not comfortable there, so we transferred to the side of the stage. And later on, we fully understand on why we all felt the same feeling, dark and suffocating.
The story revolves to Era, a single mother facing the realities that life is too complicated to understand. Together with her sister Gie and best friend Bubbles, the story continues to tackle the common problems of each and every human being facing struggle, anxiety and depression.
The live play is the suffocating itself, because its a story everyone has in mind, dark and no escape. Era is us. Era is everyone fighting their inner demons. We are in inside the room we all hate. Its like being in an actual horror story and you’re there physically witnessing it.
It was so good, yet so relatable. It triggers something, but I will leave it to each and everyone’s mind. Because to me, it opens my mind into the reality of not everyone will be able to escape that dark room, someone is not winning the battle and Era, the main character of is one of them.
“GISING NA” is a live play produced by Studio A Production and currently releasing new play dates on the first week of March, still at Artienda Art Gallery. The play is worth 1,000 pesos each.
Wake up and face your fears.
