MANILA, Philippines – Accommodation establishments like hotels in the City of Baguio have been allowed by the IATF-EID to accept tourists while being in General Community Quarantine (GCQ).
The Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR) where Baguio is located has been placed in GCQ due to the surge of COVID-19 cases, attributed to the more contagious UK variant.
In an endorsement Department of Tourism Secretary Bernadette Rolumo-Puyat said: “Given Baguio City’s visitor information, registration and contract tracing system and the assurance to undertake stricter measures to make it work, we objectively endorsed the request to the IATF for guidance.”
The IAFT-EID issued IATF Resolution 98 which reads: “The request of Baguio CIty for its hotels and other establishments to accommodate travelers for leisure purposes while under GCQ classification subject to the observance of strict health protocols and contact tracing measures is granted.”
While Baguio City is granted to accept tourists, Department of Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that wearing of face masks and face shields, observing physical distancing, prohibiting mass gathering, testing and monitoring of travelers should be implemented.
