Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año urged people to observe physical distancing even at home to avoid contracting COVID-19, which has already infected over 190,000 persons in the country.
It means that family members should keep a distance of at least one meter among themselves in their homes as a precaution against COVID-19. In addition to this, Filipino household should also strictly practice proper hygiene like washing of hands as well as disinfectant of their clothing and other personal items every time they will go outside and be exposed to the outside environment.
According to Año, households should practice physical distancing especially if there are family members who are working outside.
Año made the statement as he has observed that members of households are among the COVID-19 patients in hospitals located in areas heavily-infected by the virus. This reminder is also crucial for families who encounter difficulties with practicing social distancing in their homes.
“Unfortunately, it’s hitting family members right now,” he said. Año said prevention comprises 80 percent of the efforts in defeating COVID-19, which means hospitals will not be overwhelmed with patients for as long as people follow health and safety protocols.
“Let’s consider that transmission now is per family….rich or poor, its the whole family…what’s most important is if they can’t [practice social distancing], they should wear a mask. Face shields are also advisable,” Año told GMA News during a recent interview.
