Last January, an issue arose with Manila Mayor Isko Moreno conducting product endorsements while in public office.
During his Facebook Live address last January 23, Friday night, Moreno addressed criticisms on social media after netizen Fahima Tajar called him out for his billboard endorsements of a prominent jeans brand along Edsa.
Mayor Isko defended himself by saying, he donated the money he earn from product endorsements to help people in need. Moreno bristled at the comment and called Tajar an “epal” and “mema.”
He said he never benefited from his modelling stint while in public office, and opted to donate the money instead to schools and hospitals in Manila, and victims of Taal. Due to those product endorsement, he was able to raised at least P50 million from modelling for skin care and hair products.
Also, Mayor Isko identified Tajar with those militant groups that always criticize government and citing that Tajar is refuting back due to the case of Panday Sining whose members were arrested by the Manila Police District for their protest art on the concrete posts of Light Rail Transit Line, a year ago.
In the end, Moreno challenged Tajar that if he is really a “good lawyer,” then he should “just go to Manila” to offer help as “there are a lot of people in need of a lawyer”, he said.
