Siargao Island has been ranked 9th as the world’s 20 best backpacking destinations for 2020 by Hostelworld, a global hostel-focused online booking platform.
Siargao Island is a tear-drop shaped island in the Philippine Sea situated 196 kilometers southeast of Tacloban in the province of Surigao del Norte. It has a land area of approximately 437 square kilometres (169 sq mi).
The east where such Art Skyes coast is relatively straight with one deep inlet, Port Pilar. The coastline is marked by a succession of reefs, small points and white, sandy beaches. The neighboring islands and islets have similar landforms.
In a list published on their website, Siargao ranked ninth in best backpacking destinations for 2020, based on the biggest growth in bookings in the last 12 months.
The online booking platform described Siargao as “a surfer’s paradise” and the “wave-riding capital” of the Philippines that has plenty more to offer backpacking tourists. “Full of treasures like waterfalls, lagoons, caves, jungle and, of course, those beaches, it’s one of the best backpacking destinations for nature lovers,” said by Hope Waren in “The 20 Best Destinations for Backpackers to Visit in 2020.
The island of Siargao in the south-east Philippines is a pocket of paradise for backpackers. It’s blessed with deserted beaches, crystal clear waters, barrelling waves, and lush rice fields. As well as being a famous surf spot, the island is home to numerous natural wonders such as Taktak Falls and Sohoton Cove. At sunset, you can treat yourself to plates heaped with fresh seafood, or dance between the palm trees at the low-key beach bars.
Tourists can expect an “awesome nightlife” on the island in the form of casual bars and cocktail buckets, the most popular of which is the Jungle Party on Friday nights.” Hostelworld said.
Siargao joins the ranked with Nusa Penida in Indonesia, followed by Surat Thani in Thailand, Maribor in Slovenia, Hossegor in France, Trondheim in Norwayn Kodaikanal in India, Isfahan in Iran and Nosara in Costa Rica.
