Mayors of local government units affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 reassured their constituents that measures are being undertaken to stop the spread of the disease.
City governments of San Juan and Taguig, both in Metro Manila, as well as Cainta in Rizal have been making efforts to prevent the spread of the disease.
In Navotos City, classes are suspended as a precautionary step against COVID-19. Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco said that the city government is only enforcing preventive measures to keep people safe. The mayor further said that the virus can spread easily, most especially with crowded places like schools.
Mayor Tiangco recommended the Department of Education to give students passing grades so they do not have to attend classes anymore.
In Cainta, Mayor Kit Nieto said his health team distributed face masks and disinfectants in areas near the residence of the fifth patient that tested positive for COVID-19.
Said patient is purported to be the first case of local transmission reported in the country.
The family has also been put under quarantine after the patient’s wife tested positive for the disease.
In San Juan City, Mayor Francis Zamora said the city government sanitized and disinfected the prayer room of the mall that a patient visited.
Mayor Zamora said that the management of the Greenhills Shopping Center was also instructed to do disinfection for the safety fo the public.
In Taguig City, the city government stepped up its monitoring and reporting system to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Earlier, city officials confirmed that a patient is an employee of a company that is located in Bonifacio Global City.
The Bonifacio Global City administration said it is undertaking frequent sanitation and disinfection of all establishments and ensures that protocols are being followed to manage the situation.
