Due to the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) people are more inclined to be at home. Most are feeling bored and hence, are mostly on the internet using different kinds of social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and etc.
Recently in March 2020, Via Gonzales, a well-known 24-year old internet personality from TikTok Star and Social Media Influencer, garnered huge media attention after her controversial video went viral on the internet. This was an alleged private video between Via and her ex-lover, Lance Centeno. After for personal reasons, the couple broke up.
The video gained thousands of views in a short period of time and leaked to various social media platforms. This is also due to many internet users also started circulating the leaked video online, making Via Gonzales the #1 trending topic of Twitter.
Many people, especially netizens, started bashing on Via Gonzales which she herself proclaimed that she is the victim from what her ex-lover did. Via made a public apology and plead to stop spreading the leaked video scandal. It is said that it is her ex-lover who uploaded the said video.
Both sides are very sorry for what they did and said that it already affected their lives, mostly in a bad way. But it seems the netizens are more invested in the scandal that they continue to give their own opinions and hate.
In my opinion, making videos during sexual acts is not really appropriate. I know some people like to have a kinky way to do things. But what happens when the person/s involved in the video had a dispute? Surely, that video can become a tool for revenge and social media platforms become its medium to be shown into the world, which is not how it suppose to be.
Why not use social media platforms to acquire good and reliable news and information, new positive discoveries, good entertainment and good connection of people instead? And not to create some fake news, scandals, scams and any form of propaganda or revolt.
As a Millennial, it is our responsibility to start a good example for the next generation and end the current downside of the previous generations. This is especially truer today because the world right now is becoming more toxic because of the wrong usage of technology.
People are becoming more impulsive because of the easy access and unstoppable flow of information. Most do not even read the whole article or post. Some do not even finish listening or watching a video conference and already making some comments. While others, do not even think before they respond or reply. Also, but rarely, some people create discord and havoc to overthrow a certain group or person in power.
A more enhanced Cyber Crime Law
At times like these, the Cyber Crime Law must be upheld in order to give appropriate punishment to certain individuals who are involved in the spreading fake news, scandals, scams and any other negativity that can destroy peoples’ lives.
Knowing that the Cyber Crime Law is not that efficient or implemented but I am hoping we can see progress in the coming months. We are in the age of technology and cybercrime is at its peak. This is especially true because we are now currently in Enhanced Community Quarantine. A lot of people are at home and on the internet.
Use social media as a good and reliable source of information.
- Let us use social media as a good way to express ourselves in the right manner. If possible do not rant. No one wants to see anyone ranting, you will be hated and be bashed instead.
- Always verify your sources to avoid spreading ill and fake information. Also, let us think first before creating new content or posts that can be viewed by many.
- Do not let your emotions spoil your decisions and do a regrettable action from that decision. Remember your current profile, especially if you have a position or an educator or even an influencer. A simple decision can make the people who trusted you to join your cause.
- Do not add to the negativity. Especially if there is a wild spread of the information already that it can destroy a life/lives. A good example would be a scandal. Instead of bashing, give them more of a life-changing and encouraging comment instead. Why add more hate, when you already even know they received lots already. Do not let yourself be the bad guy. Who knows you might trigger a suicidal thought.
- Lastly, let us not judge others. We do not have any right to judge someone else. It is not really appropriate. We are all both equal because we are human beings. Remember to put yourself in the person’s shoes before you judge first.
In the end, let us accept each other faults instead and become wiser and change for the better of the common good.
