Five Filipino chocolate brands received international acclaim and recognition after securing 24 awards in various categories in the 2019 Academy of Chocolate Awards in the United Kingdom.
Chocolate made by the brands Auro Chocolate, Dalareich Food Products, Malagos Agri Ventures Corp., MS3 Agri-Ventures, and Theo and Philo Artisan Chocolates impressed over 100 judges that made up the panel, according to the Philippine embassy in London.
2019’s board of judges included leading chocolatiers and some of the United Kingdom’s most prominent food bloggers and writers.
“The recognition given to Philippine chocolates over the years shows that Philippine chocolates are indeed world-class,” Ambassador Antonio Lagdameo said.
Entries numbering over a thousand from almost 50 countries were tested for appearance, depth of aroma and flavor, length and complexity in a strict 25-session judging process spanning over 12 weeks.
“Purity and sustainability of ingredients remain paramount considerations for the Academy,” Marie-Pierre Moine, board member, and awards ambassador, said.
Back in 2018, Davao City’s Malagos chocolates bagged five awards in the same competition.
Under the awards’ drinking category, Malagos’ 85-percent dark chocolate received a silver award while its 72 percent variants acquired bronze awards.
For the tree to bar category, Malagos’ 72 percent and 85-percent variants also won silver.
The Academy of Chocolate awards was initially launched in 2005.
