Philippine Amusements and Gaming Corp (PAGCOR) donated P2 billion pesos to the government to join the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The said amount was given to the Office of the President last March 11,2020. It aims to fund the government’s efforts against the fight of the dreaded coronavirus, which originated from Wuhan, China.
PAGCOR chairman and chief executive Andrea Domingo said, “The P2 billion was remitted to the Socio-Civic Projects Fund under the Office of the President in response to Proclamation No. 922, declaring a State of Public Health Emergency throughout the Philippines brought about by the COVID-19 virus.”
In a statement, PAGCOR chairman Andrea Domingo said, that the amount should be used for the healthcare frontliners Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and to support for the tests being conducted by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine.
“Containing the spread of the virus at the community level is very important as this will further curb spread of the disease. But many of our public hospitals and healthcare facilities are not fully equipped to handle a pandemic of this magnitude. Hence, the need for all of us to work together,” she said.
