The male-dominant Philippine National Police or PNP welcomed its newest female general to its ranks. President Rodrigo Duterte promoted Ma. Asuncion Placino to a rank of one-star general.
Placino is the executive officer of the Directorate for Integrated Police Operations in Southern Luzon and the sole woman in the 190,000-strong ranks of the PNP having the rank of general.
She is not the only PNP personnel promoted. Joining her in the ranks of one-star general are Brig Gen. Sterling Blanco, executive of the Directorate for Plans, and Brig. Gen. Bartolome Bustamante, executive officer of the Directorate for Police Community Relations.
Interior Secretary and chairman of the National Police Commission (Napolcom) Eduardo Año, and the then PNP chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde endorsed the promotion of the three officials based on the recommendation of the PNP Senior Officers Placement and Promotion Board.
