The 3rd national simultaneous earthquake drill happened in Ormoc City, Leyte recently last August 2019. PLDT with Smart Communications (Smart) supported the quake drill by providing emergency alerts and warnings via the Emergency Cell Broadcasting System (ECBS).
Emergency Cell Broadcasting System (ECBS) is an alert broadcast system in the Philippines. Designed to disseminate emergency alerts and warnings to mobile devices via cell broadcast services.
To provide Wi-Fi at the City Hall for livestream and coverage, a Multi-Equipment on Wheel (MEOW) a portable cell site was also deployed.

Libreng Tawag Station
The emergency respondents were given access to satellite phones and (Libreng Tawag) stations that was set up at Ormoc Central School, City Hall and SM Ormoc to provide free calls.
PLDT-Smart gave away copies of the instructional video “Maging Laging Handa” to the representatives of Ormoc City disaster risk reduction and management office and barangays. The video aims to help the youth in understanding the importance of disaster preparedness.
