It’s lunchtime again. The work is many, our stomachs are grumbling, and our heads are dizzy. Our boss, Sir Air, decided to that we’ll be having a working lunch. That means that we’ll be having a meeting while having lunch!
So, off we go! From our office at the State Condominium IV, we went on an adventure to Greenhills. We braved congested streets, waded through a deluge of people, and endured the sweltering hit until we arrived at paradise! At last, salvation is at hand! Come, thy brethren in hunger! We shall sate our palate at Classic Savory!
Okay, that’s a bit dramatic. What actually happened is that we went out of the office, and looked for the nearest restaurant that we haven’t tried yet. And so, we came upon Classic Savory at the Theatre Mall, Greenhills.
Apparently, Classic Savory started way back in the 1950s with the Ting brothers. Initially, the brothers were only selling pancit. But, as they grew in popularity, they started to include Filipino and Chinese dishes to their menu. In some point of time, the brothers discovered a new recipe that will cement their restaurant to Filipino food culture. It is the iconic savory chicken and gravy combo that we all know and love today.
Upon getting there, we decided to try all sorts of dishes. So, we ordered the seafood fried rice, creamy mushroom fillet, and the famous savory chicken. Oh, we also got the ube sago and the pandan fiesta salad for desert.
When the dishes were served, I first tasted the savory chicken and gravy. I can honestly say that Classic Savory’s chicken is unique. I have never tasted chicken like that of Classic Savory. It tasted like herbs. So does the gravy. In fact, the gravy and chicken complement each other. The chicken is also tender and juicy. It’s not dry whatsoever.
One can say that a Filipino’s lunch is not complete without a serving of rice. So, to accompany the savory is the seafood fried rice. The fried rice is garnished with the bounties of the sea like shrimps, scallops, fish, and squid.
We also tried the creamy mushroom fillet. From the name alone, you’d think it’s a pork or beef dish. Well, you’d be wrong. It’s actually made out of fish! I can’t believe how soft the fish fillet is. The creamy sauce emphasizes the seafood dish.
Eating all those dishes made me full. I thought that I couldn’t eat another bite. Then, the deserts came. Well, my stomach is still full. So, I waited till it settled down and tried a bite. My first impression is that the ube sago was very creamy. The ube sago was also thick and sweet, perfect to remove the umay!
The lunch at the Classic Savory at Greenhills is truly a treat. If you want to try a chicken dish that’s not like the others, go and experience Classic Savory. I’m sure you’ll find it to be worth it.
