President Rodrigo Duterte expressed gratitude to Indian President Ram Nath Kovind for the country’s support in rebuilding Marawi City.
The city was devastated after the struggle of ISIS-aligned militants with the military back in 2017.
In response to Marawi’s devastation, President Kovind gave aid of Rs 3.2 crore.
The Philippine President thanked his Indian counterpart at the state banquet for the monetary help.
“Allow me, Excellency, to take this occasion to thank you, a great nation, for your unswerving support to my country,” Duterte spoke.
“Whether it be in rebuilding Marawi or international arena when our sovereignty is challenged, India was with the Philippines,” the Filipino president added.
“Today, we have strengthened our commitment to see more vibrant and multi-faceted ties between our countries and peoples. I have no doubt that we will succeed in this noble endeavor,” Duterte further said.
President Kovind gave thanks to the Filipino president for the warm welcome given to him and his delegates.
The Indian president’s state visit in the Philippines lasted for five days.
