Japanese Electronics Epson released its first-ever industrial robotics in the Philippines for the at Manufacturing Technology World Manila 2019.
Epson’s wide scope of products and services
Seiko Epson Corporation, or widely known as Epson is famous for its consumer products like printers and projectors, devices usually found at homes, schools, and offices. Little did we know that they also create and produce wearable devices, microdevices, and robotics solutions. During the media launch, the robotics technology became the focus of the discussion as they introduced new SCARA (Selective Compliance Assembly Robot Arm) robots: N2, T-series and LS3.
A quick overview of the latest SCARA Epson robots
Epson N2 robots are claimed to have a distinctive ability to fold through itself instead of moving around. This design is said to be suitable for confined workspaces and smaller payloads as the N2 robot reduces the required workspace area by up to 40%. If these can operate in small areas, they will enable more efficiency in the assembly line layout and improved productivity. The company described it with a high sensitivity of force sensors that can be utilized in the assembly of delicate parts.
As for the Epson T-series, these are said to have a built-in controller that saves space and simplifies robot setup and redeployment. Battery-less motors were included according to Epson so users from SMEs will never need to buy, replace, and dispose of old motor batteries. They can sharply reduce running costs and line downtime. This series of robots can be used for automation of test machine loading/unloading and other simple processes.
Meanwhile, LS3 robots are said to deliver high performance at a reasonable cost. They are engineered to handle a maximum payload of 3kg with an arm length of 400mm. These robots have many possible uses including the following: mechanical or electrical assembly, pick and place, kitting and dispensing.
