When we hear the word “Bathroom”, we don’t really put in much thought in terms of design. Most people will associate it with just the basic components: The shower, the sink, and the toilet. However, bathroom design contributes a lot to experience, lifestyle, and the upkeep of the bathroom itself.
Respected Interior Designer, Mike Suqui, discussed different ideas and concepts in bathroom designing during TOTO Asia Oceana’s Grand Opening of “Life Anew” on September 12, 2019.
According to Mr. Suqui, In designing a bathroom, especially for the challenging spaces of urban living, so many factors must be considered. From the minute and often overlooked decision of choosing your tiles and the little details, like the materials used; contributes to how long the design will last, how well the available space will be maximized, how often cleaning must be done.
Maximize lights when space is small. Additionally, lights can evoke different moods and atmospheres. Chromotherapy is the science of using colors to adjust body vibrations to frequencies that result in health and harmony. Each color possesses frequencies of a specific vibration, and each vibration is related to different physical symptoms. Our bodies need the sun’s light to live.
12 x 24 is the rule when picking the tiles.
Mirrors to give the illusion of space, but keep them away from moisture to avoid molds.
Different bathroom materials have different maintenance. For example, use porcelain or ceramic so you don’t need to constantly clean them.
Make your bathroom dual function. For example, you can combine a shower and a sauna in one space.
Never forget to take advantage of vertical space.
Choosing the right bathroom design contributes significantly to stress management and overall harmony in your home. After all, we are at our most vulnerable state when we use the bathroom.
