With June rolling up in a few months, 12th grade students and college seniors are both preparing for a new journey in their lives.
Changes, adjustments, and transitions wait – in a way, basically starting from scratch. Last firsts are taken note of, such as: last first day, last first exams, and last first hangout for the sem with the OG barkada.
Yet in no time, last firsts will turn into last tuition run, last ever class proper, and last “I want this to end” final exams. Graduation photos and practices are all lined up. Senioritis hits like a ton of bricks and it finally sinks in. It’s almost over.
For high school seniors, it’s a difficult pill to swallow. You realize friendships won’t exactly be the same after graduation. Especially for those who spent their entire grade school to high school in the same school – the hallway hangouts, classroom kalokohans, basketball games flirting, canteen kainans, and “sabay na tayo mag-clinic” escapades. Every corner has a sentimental value to you.
For college seniors, it’s more of the uncertainty of what’s next and every “student experience” no longer being in their vocabulary after. No more waiting for #WalangPasok, long breaks in between classes, “hell week”, and terror profs (maybe only terror bosses from now on). You’ll tend to value late night coffee shop study sessions and crying with the rest of the class out of exhaustion, realizing how those are coming to an end too.
The end of season is both a painful and beautiful thing. Saying goodbye to high school or college is never easy, but the growth from moving forward will allow you to look back and say, “Those were some wonderful times of my life, and for that, I’m grateful. Here’s to making much more.” Cheers.
