It’s become tradition for Filipina beauty queens to create and name signature walks when they head down the Miss Universe runway. Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach stunned with the Tanim-bala walk. Miss Universe Philippines 2017 Rachel Peters glided across the stage with her Infinity Walk. Not to be outdone, this year’s candidate Catriona Gray worked hard with choreographer Carlos Buendia Jr. to create the Lava Walk which was lovingly named after her birthplace, Bicol, famous for the Mayon Volcano.
Catriona owned the Miss Universe Runway with her Lava Walk, which creates the illusion of slow motion before finishing with a mesmerizing twirl-and-snap. Film Director Marlon Rivera explains how it’s done:
Besides hypnotizing fans and judges alike, the Lava Walk also elicited funny reactions from netizens:
What about you? What are your thoughts about Cat’s catwalk?
