My passion for PR work has brought me to the different facets of my job. Client servicing, finance part, research and being part of the creatives are just some of these. But having the opportunity to wear a journalist’s hat is pretty much my favorite part of being in the communications industry.
I take pride in being assigned by distinguished editors in the newspapers, magazines and even online news portal to cover events and write about it. And being part of media will make you understand why there are people taking advantage of this. Events happening in posh venues, delicious food and free flowing drinks, loot bags, the chance to rub elbows with the who’s who of the corporate and entertainment world, free accommodation or trips, first dibs on the latest vehicles or gadgets, among others.
But aside from my love for writing, I am also a frustrated basketball player. At 38, I still have that burning desire to be the best that I can be every time I am holding a basketball. Since 2000, ever since I started my corporate career, basketball has been my refuge. The game never fails me to recharge which is what in being part of a very challenging and dynamic industry of PR.
That is why when Suzuki Philippines established the SUZUKI MEDIA HOOPS NIGHT, I was ecstatic. You see, for a company, who is the business of manufacturing quality motorcycle and distributorship of automobile, it is a breath of fresh air and I had to take my hats off for the company in making an effort to ensure that the motoring beat will have their time to release their stress on the court.
Suzuki Philippines, Incorporated is a wholly- owned subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan. The Company takes pride in its motorcycle line-up for leisure, sports or business, as well as quality compact vehicles that are tailored to adapt to the customers’ dynamic needs.
The inauguration of several new dealerships in different key cities across the country in the past year helped further strengthen the company’s foothold in the Philippine market.
Thanks to Suzuki Philippines, Inc., the motoring media gets to enjoy a competitive yet friendly game of basketball once a month. And if you think that the company is just doing the reservation of the court, well, think again. Because Suzuki Philippines knows how to treat us media well.
Suzuki Philippines has been having an eventful 2017 that is why they want to give back and say thanks to the members of the press who has been very supportive to their various activities. But instead of the usual media gathering over breakfast or lunch or dinner, the company understands the rigours of being a journalist that is why sports has always been part of their advocacy.
Veteran motoring journalists and current president of Car Awards Group, Inc. and basketball enthusiast Ronald delos Reyes shared that way before the creation of Suzuki Media Hoops Night, he planned this kind of activity with the officials of Suzuki Philippines as a means to release stress and to have a friendly basketball game at least once a month. “I am glad that Suzuki implemented this monthly hoops because it gives us motoring journalists a breath of fresh air,” said delos Reyes.
That is why Suzuki has been an ardent supporter of the biennial ASEAN Football Federation event. But here in the Philippines, and being a basketball country, the company chose this sport as a way to bond with its hardworking employees and the members of the press.
