Miss Universe brings new vibe and excitement as it changes the format of this year’s competition during the coronation night at the Mall of Asia Arena this January 30.
According to the Miss Universe 2017 website, the scores from the voting public will be crucial for each round since it will be combined with the judges’ scores to determine who among the candidates will advance.
Instead of having 15 finalists, the competition will announce 12 pre-determined candidates at the start of the coronation night. These candidates will advance to the swimsuit competition and only nine of them will remain to compete for the evening gown portion.
Unlike last year, six candidates will go through the question and answer (Q&A) portion where the top three will be chosen.
“During the last stage of the competition, the judges and home viewers are asked to make a decision based on their overall performance through the Final Look. Rather than score, this segment is ranked, meaning the judges and home viewers base their vote on who they think should win the title,” the new rules stated.
